The three items that I would take with me that would represent my family culture would be the Bible, a recent family photo, and a backpack of drinking water.
The Bible, represents the love of God in the fear of No Evil, through diversity and trials and tribulations. Keeping our passion and comfort alive in his testimony and Adventures of life.
Have any recent photo of family members just in case we get separated or something tragic happens to us. Each of us would have a recent photo represent the love of Christ and the togetherness of one family.
The backpack of clean water, other countries struggle with clean water. The Rice's would have a backpack of water and a water filter that cleans water through ditches canals and lakes. This can be our bargaining strategy for food and other resources.
After arriving in the new country perhaps I was told that I was going to have one item and that would be the backpack full of water and filters. The Rice’s is Walk of Life is a part of Biblical history, as well as recent photos that I can no longer take with us. Since our body is made of about 80% of water the Rice’s will utilize this resources for housing, food, clothing and other resources of Lifestyle. While sharing the gospel and creating a new family photo.
The insight that I gain from this experience about family culture, culture difference, and our family values, is the diversity ethics of cultural values of lifelong learning skills. Educators in the field of Early Childhood need to seek to understand diversity culture as a part of their Lifestyles and acceptance.

It amazes me that we selected two of the same items which are a family photo and the Bible. This has showed me that our cultures share similarities. I too believe that family is important and I am grounded in my faith. My faith is who I am and it keeps me going as well. Water would be a beneficial item to select for the multiple reasons that you stated above. Culture brings uniqueness into the world and when it is noticed, it should be greatly appreciated.
Hello Mohan,
After reading your post I can see why you picked what you did. I also picked pictures of my family but did not think the same way you did. But now that I read what you said about your pictures of your family I have to say that I agree with you. If we were to get separated from each other or something what wrong them we had picture of each other to remember each other by. I believe that family is very important and that is why I would always have a picture of them with me. Great post
Hi Mohan
A very interesting take on your items. I didn't think about water and the struggles some countries face with potable water. I too chose the bible and family photos. This shows that although we are from different countries and cultures we somehow treasure similarities in terms of our families. This is amazing because it reveals that we are more than just family and culture, we are a human race. "We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin but we all belong to ONE HUMAN RACE." - Kofi Annan. Thanks for sharing!
Never give up on the unique traditions of your family.
Mohan,
A backpack full of drinking water as well as the drinking straw would be great items to bring with you in the face of a catastrophic event. It is important to be prepared and your family would definitely be ready. I, too, chose a picture, as one of my items to bring with me but I do not think a picture would be able to help with bargaining should the need arise.
