California child abuse reporting law
The first child abuse report law in California was enacted in 1963. The child abuse and neglect report Act (CANRA) was passed in 1980. Over the years, number Amendments have expanded a definition of child abuse and the person required to report. California abuse report law is founded in penalty code section 11165-11174.5
What is Child Abuse?
The law defines a child as:
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuses
- Emotional abuse
- Neglect
- Severe Neglect
I believe all educated should be informed with any new information on mandated reporting.
If any Educators comes across a child expecting or is in a situation of child abuse, we should report within the first two hours of hearing any knowledge or viewing any incidents.

As Educators, we should be aware of our curriculum that goes on in child care programs as well as child abuse awareness.
Had the privilege to meet Dr Adolf Brown in person, what a phenomenal speaker that support Head Start and public education. The following video clip is a snapshot, must see and stay connected with.

We shouldn't forget that we have to be the voice for our children, even if that means looking for and reporting unexplainable bruises or burns and reporting signs of verbal and physical abuse. That clip of Dr. Adolf Brown captured me! He is very exuberant, hands on and captivating. Sometimes we teachers need to be that way as well to catch the attention of our children. I will be looking on social media for him and looking out for more of his work...Good job Mohan!!
Great post, I agree with whom should report abuse and what abuse is. The thing is some of those rules are bit much. Kids are my world and safety comes first all the way when it comes to children. Just this Friday my nephew fail at the park broke his arm, now my sister was held at the hospital entire weekend to be interviewed by DCFS. I think that authority some time loose focus on where to report at.
